My Story
I discovered photography while studying at the National School of Visual Arts of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Amazed by the magic act of developing an image and watching it appear on the paper through the chemicals from the tenuous red light in the darkroom, it felt like I was a wizard or an alchemist discovering the unknown; I still have the olfactory memory of the pungent fumes of the fixer.
My level of craftsmanship of this medium could not be achieved without the help of my two mentors: Ignacio “Nacho” Lopez and Walter Reuter both of whom shared with me their tremendous experience and knowledge of photography and the ethics of photojournalism. I assisted Walter for several years, and we enjoyed great moments while capturing images of Indigenous communities in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Following my dreams and my desire for adventure, I moved to New York City in 1993. It is here that I embraced the digital era through applying my analog expertise in producing high end quality imagery content.
In 2010, I obtained a BA in Communication and Culture from the School of Professional Studies at the Graduate Center, City University of New York with one of the first ePortfolio as my Capstone/Senior Research Project “The Mexicanization of Sunset Park, Brooklyn”
